A while ago I loaded a second island; my eleven year old niece Emma built this beautiful bridge between them. Must have been hard to position the prims!
OpenSim is a 3D environment pretty much like Second Life, but built by a team of open source developers. It is accessible with the SL client and - for the most part - works just like it. You can download and install yourself! For more info, see:
